TELECOMMUNICATIONS TECHNICIAN

Responsibilities:

This full-time position is to provide technical support to customers, proactively maintain the telecommunications infrastructures in place and also contribute to the installation of new telecommunications mobile radio (TETRA) base station sites including end user equipment and vehicles.  Also, this position will require your involvement in similar wireless technology expertise like WiMax, cellular, etc.:

•    Execute, coordinate and supervise contract maintenance work for facilities scheduled preventive and comprehensive maintenance at customers’ sites (eg. Base station sites, mobile radio servicing, surveys, equipment inspection, etc);
•    Provide post sales ad-hoc technical support to customers;
•    Co-ordinate with corporate team on ordering new systems, spare parts and following up with quotations or change notices;
•    Respond to service calls and ensure resolution of the problems;
•    Perform out installation and troubleshooting when required;
•    To be highly available for any urgent service response work to be carried out;
•    To prepare and submit incident reports in timely and organized manner;
•    Configure network elements to commission infrastructure and end user equipment;
•    Perform coverage or interference measurements for new installations when required;
•    Collaborate with specialists and provide training to clients in the use of the systems;
•    Identify and correct or advise, on operational issues with client;
•    May instruct, lead, and direct the work of others as a Field Supervisor, Safety Representative with subcontractors and SM Group field personnel.

Requirements:

•    Technical and/or University diploma will be considered with combined pertinent experience;
•    Eligible or member of a renowned professional organization and/or is strongly recommended by previous employers or customers on key achievements;
•    5-10 years’ experience in telecommunications projects.  More experience in wireless will be highly considered;
•    Desire to accomplish field projects;
•    Efficient organizational abilities and efficiency in writing reports;
•    Motivated in working in an environment with many challenges;
•    Ability to surpass yourself individually and as a team member;
•    Excellent communication (oral and written), interpersonal, organizational, and presentation skills;
•    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form;
•    Must be able to work in a team atmosphere. Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others;
•    Worksafe BC registered;
•    PSSP, WPP, First aid, helicopter transport certification are required.  Some other safety and security certifications may be required by customers from time to time.  Groupe SM will assume the charges associated with these trainings;
•    Valid driver’s license.  Must own a vehicle which can accommodate the transport of work test equipment, standard telecommunications tools and safety equipment for the execution of this Maintenance and Support role;
•    Position is based in Vancouver.  Ability to travel within British Columbia and sometimes, if required, in Canada and abroad.
